Polanco contributes big hit in return for Phils

07/17/2010 - Chicago, IL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Placido Polanco made a huge impact Saturday in his return to the lineup with the Philadelphia Phillies.

The veteran infielder, who was activated off the 15-day disabled list prior to the game, singled home the tying run and eventually scored in a four-run, two-out ninth inning rally that carried the Phillies to a 4-1 win over the Cubs. He finished the game 1-for-5.

Polanco had not played since June 25 due to inflammation in his left elbow. He had been playing through the injury after getting hit by a Tim Hudson pitch in April, but anti-inflammatories and cortisone shots did not remedy the issue.

Through his first 62 games this season, the 34-year-old veteran was batting .318 with five home runs and 27 RBI. He was the leading vote-getter among National League third basemen in All-Star balloting prior to his injury.

To make room on the roster, the club gave infielder Juan Castro his unconditional release.

Castro has been a serviceable injury replacement for a battered Phillies infield this season, playing shortstop, second base and third while hitting .198 with 13 RBI in 54 games.

Kurt Warner to start, Matt Leinart to watch

Despite the debate that's swirling , Kurt Warner will remain the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, coach Dennis Green said today. The Arizona Cardinals are the +7 point underdog at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com for this Sunday's game.

Green's comment came in a statement released by the team following an ESPN report that Green decided that rookie Matt Leinart would replace Warner as starter for Sunday's game at Atlanta.

"Generally talking about the starting lineup is not something we do," Green told the AP. "However, given the speculation that was out there we want to make it clear. We're disappointed after last week, but we still expect to be a playoff football team and we fully expect Kurt Warner to be the quarterback that leads us. That has not changed."
