Padres place Eckstein on DL; reinstate Venable

07/21/2010 - San Diego, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The San Diego Padres placed infielder David Eckstein on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday and reinstated outfielder Will Venable from the DL.

Eckstein suffered a right calf strain and is on the DL for the first time since July 6, 2009. In 78 games this season, he's hitting .279 with a homer, 20 doubles and 22 RBI.

Venable, meanwhile, has been out since early July with a lower back strain and has a .238 batting average with eight homers and 32 RBI in 69 games.

If there is any category that is not an obvious win for any one nominee in this year's Academy Awards, it would be for Best Picture.  Sure the Departed is a 5/7 favorite, but that's hardly anything when we look at Helen Mirren and her "out-of-reach" 1 to 40 odds (which means you would win a whopping $1 for every $40 bet).

Who is to say independently produced Little Miss Sunshine won't be this year's Crash.  Last year, Crash won for Best Motion Picture, shocking those who bet on gay cowboy flick, Brokeback Mountain, as the favorite to win.
