Gwynn has appeared in 103 games for San Diego this season and is batting .212 with three homers and 20 RBI.

To take his spot on the roster, the team recalled pitcher Ryan Webb from Triple-A Portland.

Webb was with the club from May 4 until August 7, when he was optioned back to Portland. In 39 games this season, he is 3-1 with a 3.05 earned run average.
