Brewers upend streaking Padres

Jonathan Lucroy added a two-run home run while Corey Hart went 3-for-4 with two runs scored for the Brewers, who have won three straight. Chase Headley hit a two-run home run while Adrian Gonzalez added a solo homer and drove in two for the Padres, who came into the game having won 10 of 11. Wade LeBlanc (7-11) was handed the loss as he was roughed up for seven runs on seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts over 3 1/3 innings.

San Diego holds a five-game lead over San Francisco for first place in the NL West.

San Diego jumped on top in the first inning as Gonzalez hit a two-out, solo homer, Ryan Ludwick followed with a walk and Headley hit a pitch over the fence in right for a 3-0 lead.

The Brewers answered in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runs. With one out, Hart tripled and Ryan Braun plated him with a single. McGehee later doubled to make it a 3-2 game.

The Padres got the runs back in the second on Will Venable's two-run double that made it a 5-2 game.

Milwaukee, though, tied the game in the third. With two outs, Braun kept the inning alive with a walk and Prince Fielder followed with a single. McGehee then drilled a 2-2 pitch over the wall in left to make it a 5-5 game.

Gonzalez's RBI single in the fourth again put the Padres in front, but Milwaukee took its first lead of the game in the bottom of the frame as Alcides Escobar led off with a single and Lucroy followed with a shot to left for a 7-6 lead.

The Brewers added another run to their lead in the fifth as Rickie Weeks' double to center scored Lorenzo Cain. On the play, Capuano was thrown out at home on the play to end the inning.

Fielder's sacrifice fly in the sixth scored Hart to extend Milwaukee's lead to 9-6.

The Brewers continued to pad their lead in the seventh as Joe Inglett's pinch- hit single plated Escobar for a 10-6 advantage.

Game Notes

Hart left the game in the eighth inning with a tight right hamstring...San Diego has won three of the five matchups with Milwaukee this season...The Milwaukee bullpen went 5 2/3 innings and gave up just one hit and one walk with eight strikeouts.

Colts give the ‘D’ its due

The Indianapolis Colts know that winning the Super Bowl last season put a huge target on their backs, and they expect opponents to go all-out to knock them from the top of the mountain.

They’ll get their first test from the New Orleans Saints this Thursday night. The defending champs had nothing but good things to say about the New Orleans defense this past week, praising their opponents’ pass rush and run-stopping abilities.

"They play very aggressively," head coach Tony Dungy told the New Orleans Times-Picayune. "They play a lot of man-to-man coverage, and they come after you. They have good pass rushers, and they're going to try to pressure us, I'm sure."

Both center Jeff Saturday and quarterback Peyton Manning gave New Orleans’ front four props, admitting keeping guys like Will Smithand Charles Grant contained would be a tall task for the offensive line.

New Orleans ranked second in total defense during the preseason at a sportsbook, allowing just under 233 yards per game. Last season, the defense finished 11th in the league after giving up 307.3 yards and 20.1 points per contest.

Not so sound on the ground

Brees says bring it on
